  1. Mr. Mitra used Marzano identifying similarities and differences. 1st he used students in remote villages that never used a computer. Then he used students that did not speak English and their difference was that they were located in different countries or they could speak English.
    Also, he also used cooperative learning and all were based in cooperative learning when he would put one computer for 4 students and allowed students to roam around without interrupting the other groups and sharing what they learn with their group members.
    The last Marzano strategy he used was the questions, cues , and advance organizers. He would leave the question and then the cue was when he would leave the organizer would be total access to the internet and also allowing them to interact in their groups by discussing and allowing students to teach others.

  2. A big strategy I noticed throughout the video was reinforcing effort and providing recognition, whether he did that or delivered it's antithesis, the principle was there. (The grandmother technique, or conversely "there's some really difficult stuff in here, I'm not sure you can figure it out, but give it a whirl.")

    Interesting for me as well was watching how the children seemed to gravitate toward cooperative learning. (And I was also pretty surprised when he found that in this method, the children retained the information, seeing as how all we hear anymore is how technology is making our children more and more unable to learn or retain information.)

  4. Identifying similarities and difference was shown in the beginning of the video when he talked about good teachers vs where they need to be. It was also shown throughout when he ventured to other countries where there was a language barrier and worked through it with google.

    Summarizing and taking notes was used when he implemented each research project. Have the students or teacher goals and lessons and wanted the students to give their input and notes on the subject at a later time.

    Reinforcing efforts and providing recognition was what SM referred to as the granny effect.

    Homework and practice was given at each class through researching on the internet.

    Nonlinguistic representation was the use of the internet and computers. Google the primary tool he used.

    Cooperative Learning was used with the granny cloud.

    Setting Objectives and providing feedback was used during each class. In the beginning he referred to one class where he told them they would get it because it was in english but try anyway. When he returned the class thought they didn't get it but actually improved greatly.

    He generated and tested his hypothesis in every class but the one that stood out the most was the last example about the students only speaking french and how he communicated with them.

    Advance organizers was used with the granny coaches, and the use of google.

  5. SM used summarizing and taking notes when he went over the experiments and gave the results to the audience.
    SM used reinforcing effort and providing recognition in his experiments by using pictures and the internet. He would give the experiments two months and they would have better recognition of the internet after that time.
    SM used homework and practice in his Hyderabad experiment. He would leave the computers for two months and then come back and see what they had learned.
    SM used nonlinguistic representations in his experiment in bio technology. The children learned from pictures of neurons and where they were located.
    SM used cooperative learning in Gateshead when they were placed into groups of four. They could move to other groups and steal their information.
    SM used setting objectives and providing feedback in everyone of his experiments. SM set an objective like the hole in the wall and trying to learn to use the internet.
    SM used generating and testing hypotheses in all his experiments. Like the hole in the wall and children teaching themselves to use the internet.

    I liked the quote that if there in interests then education is happening.

  6. I can't believe a missed the granny effect. I also noticed that when it was implemented the student learning increase because student where receiving motivation that help them focused and allowed the intrinsic motivation to fire up.

  7. The Marzano's theories that were applied was identifying similaries and differences, when he said if a teacher can be replaced by a computer than they should be. Summarizing and note-taking was when he had the student goggle the translation on the internet in order to understand the video. Reinforcing effort and providing recognition was when SM left the screens on the walls and the children were learning from just watching and listening. Homework and practice was when he would leave computers with the students and would tell them to watch but yet did not explain what they were watching and still the students learned and were able to tell him what they had learned..

  8. SM identified similarities and differences by pointing out that all teachers around the world pick certain places in their own countries where qualified teachers choose not to go. He utilized cooperative learning by placing a computer in easy reach of the kids and hooking up the internet to it. His theory was that children will learn what they want to learn. The students were able to work in groups in order to learn how to use the computer. SM also generated and tested hypothesis by placing the computers in different locations in order bring about a different result based on the area. One example was when he set a computer in an area where students didn't speak english. He set the computer to allow the students to speak jibberish into the computer and it would translate into english for them. This helped them to learn a little bit of english. SM also noticed students were able to maintain objectives by using the Internet.

Watching the part where the students picked up on the British accent was funny, because my wife had downloaded a kids learning program on her Ipad and would show a dog, horse, cow, cat and other animals and the narrator would ask what do you see and give them a few minutes to answer and than would say what the animal was, but my wife had downloaded the European version and now my grand-daughter pronounces animals with a British accent.
